The Team

We are looking to hire a Professional Tester within the Actuarial Systems Team (AST) at Pacific Life Re, a major global player in Life Reinsurance. As well as supporting our Actuarial functions around the globe, the team is increasingly working with the wider business to ensure we are well positioned to embrace the rapidly changing technical landscape. With a proactive approach to problem solving, you will constantly strive to improve all aspects of the actuarial systems workflow, including calculation accuracy, process automation and system performance. You will be involved in the design, implementation and testing of process, modelling and infrastructure improvements.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced professional to join our growing Actuarial System Team and lead a new specialised testing sub team. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support the following activities:

  • Support the model development team and our business consumers by maintaining and enhancing a robust set of testing tools and processes and performing and evidencing a rigorous regime of functional and non-functional model testing.
  • To develop and maintain strong working relationships with all key users and stakeholders.
  • Oversight / management of junior team members, including supporting and monitoring their development needs.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and prioritise high value outcomes in terms of various competing priorities and in context of time/resource/design constraints.
  • Active independent / peer review and challenge across all aspects of AST activities.
  • Proactively contribute to AST team management and various strategic objectives and focus areas outside of day‑to‑day role.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualified or partly‑qualified actuary with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in life insurance or life reinsurance.
  • Experience of using Prophet, RiskAgility FM, Tyche or similar modelling platforms, including an understanding of the benefits and limitations of such platforms.
  • Experience with Atlassian suite, including Zephyr, or other test management applications.
  • Understanding of Life, CI, IP and Annuity/Longevity insurance products and the actuarial concepts underpinning the core model calculations.
  • Demonstrable interest in long‑term actuarial modelling / testing role.
  • Advanced understanding of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to build and manage relationships with stakeholders in Actuarial and non‑Actuarial teams.
  • Ability to be forward‑looking and anticipate future needs.
  • Good analytical skills and a demonstrable ability to plan and prioritise workloads and deliver to deadlines.
  • Coaching experience and ability to manage across multiple locations and time zones.
  • Ability to challenge / enhance processes, in a culture of continuous improvement.
