The Savings & Retirement (S&R) team at Pacific Life Re is responsible for sourcing opportunities and executing reinsurance transactions with clients in our target global retirement markets. We deliver bespoke reinsurance solutions to our clients to support policyholders’ retirement needs and financial goals.

The Deal Pricing team within S&R is responsible for pricing all products and reinsurance structures across our global markets. We focus on modelling cashflows, capital, and deal metrics, with an emphasis on asset pricing for funded reinsurance transactions.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Actuary to join our team focusing on pricing flow transactions. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge and experience in structuring deals and developing and modelling investment solutions to back insurance liabilities.

The Role

You will be leading a team responsible for pricing inforce flow transactions for saving and retirement deals, delivering prices according to schedules, and working closely with the Client Solutions team, Pricing & Portfolio Solutions (PPS) team, and Finance and Operations teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Price Delivery: Lead the pricing of inforce flow transactions on a regular cadence, ensuring timely delivery against schedules. Perform detailed analysis to support internal governance and approvals.
  • Assumptions & Model Oversight: Lead regular reviews of pricing assumptions, investment strategies, and model developments. Identify opportunities to enhance pricing accuracy and competitiveness, and drive continuous model improvement.
  • Reporting & Insights: Oversee new business metrics and management reporting for flow transactions, providing clear insights to support decision-making and performance monitoring.
  • Process Optimisation: Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance scalability and efficiency. Strengthen operational processes and model risk controls, while maintaining high-quality and up-to-date documentation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong working relationships with Client Solutions, Pricing & Portfolio Solutions (PPS), Corporate Actuarial, and Operations teams. Collaborate effectively to support pricing delivery and ensure seamless downstream execution.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional qualifications (IFoA, SOA, or similar) with 5+ years of professional experience in an actuarial team.
  • Managerial experience with a forward-thinking mindset, with the ability to lead a team to deliver pricing according to planned schedules.
  • Highly organised with strong project and workflow management skills. Able to prioritise effectively, adapt to changing priorities, and ensure timely delivery against deadlines.
  • Ability to critically analyse model outputs, identify key drivers, and propose pricing improvements.
  • Strong communication skills. Able to communicate complex actuarial concepts to a range of audiences both verbally and written. Track record of stakeholder management & seeking approvals/pitching.
  • Experience in insurance/reinsurance pricing for asset intensive business. Understanding of market risks (interest rates, FX, credit spread, liquidity).
  • Deal structuring experience, with relevant experience relating to collateral structures and developing investment strategies, is an advantage.
