UnderwriteMe is a UK-based Insurtech creating disruptive SaaS solutions for the insurance industry. We are on a mission to make life insurance more widely accessible, providing technology to ensure people and their loved ones are protected when the inevitable happens. We are wholly owned by Pacific Life, but operate as an autonomous business within the company. This gives us the best of both worlds - the freedom to act like a technology scale-up, with the stability of a large company meaning longer-term thinking and no last minute pivots to gain our next funding round.

UnderwriteMe has two main products we sell to customers:

  • Decision Platform - a B2B enterprise platform that provides a best-in-market Underwriting Rules Engine used by over 30 insurers to power their underwriting decisions. The product is sold across UK & Ireland, Asia-Pacific and North America. The platform combines our engine with technology to source and process third-party information supporting underwriting decisions for insurers. We are already working on capabilities, powered by AI, to make these decisions even more efficient.
  • Protection Platform - a B2B2C marketplace used by over 15,000 advisors to power quoting and purchase of protection products in the UK.

UnderwriteMe is part-way through a multi-year transformation to adopt a Product Operating Model, modernising our architecture and moving our products to a SaaS model. We still have much to do, and we’re looking for people to join us on this challenging and exciting journey.

What you will be doing

As a Sales Engineer, you’ll bring technical expertise to pre-sales engagements and implementations, playing a central role in connecting customer needs to our platform’s technical capabilities. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to both clients and internal teams, leading technical conversations throughout the pre-sales and early implementation phases. Working closely with sales, product and customer stakeholders, you’ll design solutions that align business goals and capture technical requirements and regulatory considerations. You’ll help us scale by contributing to high-quality documentation, reference architectures and reusable assets.

You’ll help clients clearly understand their requirements and guide them toward practical, scalable solutions. This includes advising technical teams on integrations, data flows and sequencing, while helping business leaders understand how technical decisions affect operating models and compliance. You’ll support complex enterprise sales cycles by contributing to RFPs, Statements of Work and risk assessments, ensuring clarity and commercial integrity. You’ll help steer implementation and hyper-care, acting as an escalation point for complex design or integration issues. You’ll also influence platform development by capturing customer insights and translating them into feedback for Product and Engineering teams.

What type of person fits the role

You enjoy working at the intersection of technology, business and customer engagement. You are comfortable acting as a trusted advisor to senior technical and commercial stakeholders and bring clarity, structure and confidence to complex discussions. You listen carefully, ask the right questions, and help customers move from ambiguity to well-defined requirements and achievable solutions. You are a strong communicator and storyteller, able to translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes. You enjoy framing problems, challenging assumptions constructively and guiding clients toward solutions that balance technical soundness with commercial and regulatory realities. While experience in insurance or underwriting platforms is beneficial, your success is driven by deep technical expertise and a proven ability to drive adoption in enterprise environments.

You thrive in complex, long-cycle sales processes involving multiple stakeholders, formal procurement and detailed solution design. You are comfortable supporting RFPs, shaping solutions and identifying risks early. You balance startup agility with enterprise rigour, knowing when speed matters and when precision is essential. As a hands-on individual contributor, you take hands-on ownership from pre-sales through implementation, working closely with sales, product, engineering, and customer success teams to ensure successful outcomes and long-term customer value.

Technical Requirements

You have strong experience designing and explaining API-driven solutions, including RESTful services, authentication patterns, and data flows across distributed systems. Hands-on familiarity with tools commonly used for API driven solutions design, validation and presales demonstrations, such as:

  • API Design, Testing & Debugging
  • Postman, Apache JMeter (or equivalent) for API testing, collections, environments, and demo scenarios
  • Familiarity with OpenAPI / Swagger specifications
  • Browser developer tools for troubleshooting APIs including request/response inspection, headers, and authentication mechanisms (OAuth2, API keys)
  • cURL for testing API using terminal

Experience working with JSON, XML, and CSV, including data transformation using tools such as Dataweave, Javascript-based transformations, JSONata or equivalent technologies. Familiarity with event-driven and messaging concepts (e.g. queues, pub/sub patterns, event streaming).

Familiarity with API mocking tools or techniques (e.g. Swagger, RAML). Experience creating architecture diagrams and technical documentation using appropriate diagramming tools (e.g. Lucidchart, draw.io). You are comfortable working with cloud-based architectures and can discuss cloud concepts such as scalability, security, and reliability with confidence. You design integration patterns, event-driven workflows and can troubleshoot complex system interactions.
