The Cloud Full‑Stack Developer (with primary focus on AWS) is responsible for the end‑to‑end design, build, and delivery of secure, cloud‑hosted applications supporting PL Re strategic platforms, including the Underwriting & Modelling Environment (UMe). This role combines hands-on cloud/full-stack development with strong technical ownership, ensuring solutions align with Pacific Life / PL Re enterprise architecture standards, security controls and operational support requirements. Initial focus will be to support the continued design, build and operation of cloud‑based platforms underpinning Global Experience Analysis (Global EA), including secure AWS infrastructure, data processing pipelines and environment automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of full‑stack applications, spanning front‑end, back‑end, and AWS-native services.
- Build and maintain applications using multiple languages and frameworks (e.g., Python, .NET, APIs, approved SDLC and web frameworks).
- Design secure and scalable integrations with AWS services such as S3, Redshift, SageMaker, EC2, IAM, and VPC.
- Ensure applications meet security, risk, and data protection requirements, including SSO/MFA, encryption, segregation of duties, and access controls.
- Work closely with Enterprise Architecture and Information Security to ensure solutions comply with enterprise standards and governance controls.
- Review designs and implementations against architectural principles, security baselines, and regulatory expectations.
- Implement DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, vulnerability scanning, and controlled deployment.
- Ensure solutions meet non‑functional requirements such as availability, resilience, performance, scalability, and disaster recovery.
- Produce and maintain technical, solution, and architecture documentation to support governance reviews, audits, and operational handover.
- Support service transition into BAU, ensuring applications are observable, monitored, documented, and supportable by run teams.
- Contribute to engineering best practice within delivery teams, helping to set high standards for secure, maintainable and supportable cloud development.
Skills & Experience – Essential
- Proven experience as an experienced Cloud Developer, Full-Stack Developer or Software Engineer delivering AWS-hosted cloud applications.
- 5–10 years’ experience working in cloud environments, with strong AWS focus and demonstrable experience delivering solutions that include AI‑enabled capabilities.
- Strong hands‑on development background, including Python and .NET‑based solutions, APIs, and modern web architectures.
- Solid understanding of cloud architecture, particularly AWS and Azure, including networking, security, IAM, and platform services.
- Experience implementing DevOps / DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in enterprise environments.
- Experience working within regulated or risk‑aware organisations, with an appreciation of governance and audit expectations.
Skills & Experience – Desirable
- Experience with data, analytics, modelling, or AI platforms on AWS.
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture principles, frameworks, and governance processes.
- Exposure to underwriting, actuarial, pricing, or analytics technology environments.
- Hands‑on experience with, or exposure to, tools such as OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Claude, Llama, Azure AI Foundry, Copilot Studio, GitHub Copilot, and related integration platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Appian).
