The role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Migration Analyst to join our large-scale platform migration programme within the UK Defence & Security sector. This critical role will focus on enabling a smooth transition from legacy systems to a new, enterprise-wide user platform. The successful candidate will bring a blend of strong technical data migration capabilities and business analysis expertise to help ensure a successful and well-governed migration process.

Key responsibilities:

  • Analyse, transform, and map structured and unstructured data from legacy systems for ingestion into the new ERP platform.
  • Define and execute data cleansing, enrichment, and transformation strategies to ensure data quality.
  • Identify and document data sources and data dependencies across business areas.
  • Work closely with business stakeholders to understand current (“as-is”) processes and design future-state (“to-be”) processes aligned with the new solution.
  • Elicit data migration requirements and prioritise datasets based on business needs and system readiness.
  • Support impact analysis for data changes and migration timelines.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including business users, technical architects, and programme leads to align data migration activities with programme milestones.
  • Facilitate workshops and discovery sessions to gather requirements and validate data migration logic.
  • Design and implement strategies to package data for staged migration, including reconciliation, validation, and post-load checks.
  • Contribute to data governance practices to ensure compliance and traceability throughout the migration process.

Who you are:

  • Proven experience in large-scale data migration projects, ideally involving ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, MS Dynamics) or other large-scale platforms.
  • Strong data analysis skills, including working with structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Proficient in tools such as SQL, Excel, and data transformation platforms (e.g., Alteryx, Informatica, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to perform business analysis, including requirements gathering and process mapping (BPMN/UML experience desirable).
  • Experience engaging with business users to understand data usage, business rules, and migration priorities.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and data lifecycle management.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with ERP systems and associated business domains (finance, HR, logistics, procurement).
  • Experience working in the defence & security sector or similarly regulated industries.
  • Understanding of security and compliance considerations for data handling in government or defence environments.
