Role Overview
We are recruiting experienced Controllers of Site Safety (COSS/CoSS) and PIC operatives for long‑term rail works across London, Kent, Sussex, and Wessex. This role is responsible for ensuring safe systems of work are implemented and maintained in accordance with industry standards. You will be required to attend full site briefings and inductions, work closely with rail teams, and ensure safety compliance at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as COSS / PIC on active rail worksites
- Establish and maintain Safe Systems of Work (SSOW)
- Deliver clear and accurate safety briefings
- Attend all required inductions, site briefings, and safety updates
- Ensure compliance with CRP / OLP procedures
- Monitor workforce safety and report unsafe conditions
- Complete safety documentation accurately
- Liaise with engineering teams, protection staff, and supervisors
Requirements
- Valid COSS / CoSS competency
- PIC competency (desirable) (SSSTS/SMSTS)
- Experience in safety‑critical rail environments
- Strong understanding of rail safety procedures
- Ability to work days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays
- Good communication and leadership skills
