Responsibilities
- Implement and uphold robust governance: Establish and maintain specific Project Controls (PC) governance, processes, and procedures across the entire project, ensuring full compliance with the relevant customer contract where applicable.
- Define and control the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB): Responsible for setting the project's baseline in terms of scope, cost, and schedule, and continuously managing the governance control of these elements.
- Lead scheduling teams: Manage scheduling staff to develop, oversee, revise, and analyse integrated project schedules, including all phases of project execution, along with contributions from contract partnerships and relevant sub-suppliers.
- Oversee project control provisions: Undertake, or manage project controls staff to provide, essential cost management, change management, risk and opportunity management, and document management.
- Deliver comprehensive reporting: Provide regular management reporting, both internal and external to the project, ensuring relevant, accurate, and reliable information on the project's status and forecast.
- Interrogate subcontractor data: Scrutinise subcontractor data related to project controls to inform the project PMB and monitor their delivery performance.
- Validate project success: Gather independent evidence to provide confidence that the project is likely to achieve its success criteria.
- Integrate project control toolsets: Ensure the integration and alignment of project control toolsets, including across contract partnerships and relevant sub-suppliers where necessary.
- Deputise for the Project Manager: Step in for the Project Manager as required, ensuring continuity.
- Establish and analyse Earned Value Management (EVM): Set up a reliable and accurate EVM system, then continuously generate and interrogate earned value reports.
- Implement ongoing risk management: Establish and manage a continuous and regular risk management process throughout the team, including risk reporting and schedule risk analysis in line with the contract.
- Support Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBR): Support IBRs (potentially with customer stakeholders) as needed to build confidence in the Performance Measurement Baseline.
- Mentor and develop staff: Develop and mentor staff to ensure robust succession planning is in place.
- Maintain key project documentation: Ensure all key project control documentation is meticulously maintained and updated as necessary.
- Ensure effective configuration control: Guarantee that effective configuration control is consistently maintained at all times.
- Provide progress and metrics reports: Furnish weekly and monthly Project Progress and Metrics Reports as appropriate for the project.
Experience
We’re looking for an organised, confident communicator who is self-motivated and possesses the knack for transforming complex problems into simple, elegant solutions. You’ll need to be capable of working across a portfolio of projects and business initiatives, often at short notice. Proven experience in a similar role is required, demonstrating the ability to lead from the front. Additionally, strong communication and influencing skills are necessary as you’ll work closely with many internal and external stakeholders.
We would also like you to have experience in a number of the following areas:
- Extensive experience in project controls on complex or major projects/programmes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of project controls approaches and practices, such as planning/scheduling management, cost management, risk management and analysis, performance management (i.e., EVM), change management, and configuration control.
- Practical experience working with common project controls toolsets, such as MSP / P6, RiskHive, ERP / SAP systems etc.
- A clear focus on project outcomes and an ability to encourage others to strive for the greater good.
- Experience collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, including external suppliers and customers.
