We particularly welcome applications from people with a background in education and/or experience in special education needs and disabilities (SEND). Also, those who have the confidence to ask constructive and challenging questions, whilst respecting confidentiality.

The Local Governing Body is responsible for supporting the strategic leadership of the school. Governors are committed to providing high quality learning, as well as being committed to continuous school improvement to ensure the best possible outcomes for all pupils. The Local Governing Body is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the school and also for ensuring the safeguarding and health & safety of the pupils, staff and visitors.

Being a governor is a position of influence in our school and governors take their responsibilities seriously, generously giving their time to make a genuine commitment in their local community. Governors feel a special connection to the school, understanding how it works from within and how considerable the challenges are for school leaders. We support our school leaders in fulfilling that leadership responsibility.

Governors come from all walks of life, from different ethnic groups and of all ages over 18. Very few people cannot be governors but a list of those who are ineligible are listed within the application form. No experience is necessary and a range of voluntary training courses are provided. We will also arrange introductory sessions.

The Local Governing Body meetings are usually held at the school on a Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. There are, however, opportunities to see the school at work through governor 'Open Mornings', which are scheduled once or twice a year, as well as link governor meetings with your assigned subject leader.

Chipstead Valley Primary School is part of the PACE Academy Trust, a small multi-academy Trust with four schools within Mitcham and Croydon. The Trust works to make a positive difference in all its schools and seeks greater educational opportunities for all of its children. Within PACE, each individual school has its own Local Governing Body which works to support the local school leaders.

If you are interested in an informal discussion about this role please contact Gemma Brusadelli via the contact details listed in the application instructions. Gemma will arrange for you to speak with the school's Chair of Governors, Shelly Rowe.

To apply for this position, please complete the application form attached including a statement with the relevant information requested by 15th December 2025 at 5pm.

Safeguarding Statement: Chipstead Valley Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to a DBS check and in line with KCSIE recommendations, we will also perform an online search of any shortlisted candidates.
