We are seeking an experienced and motivated Scotland News Editor to lead our daily news operation in Scotland. This is a senior role for a journalist with proven reporting and editorial leadership skills, a strong understanding of the Scottish news agenda, and a keen eye for multimedia storytelling. You’ll oversee a talented team of reporters and photographers, ensuring high-quality content across words, pictures, and video. This is a hands-on, forward-facing role, combining newsroom management with the ability to write and edit top-quality journalism.
Key responsibilities:- Lead the day-to-day news gathering operation across Scotland, deploying team resources effectively.
- Deliver fast, fair, and accurate multimedia content, including breaking news, exclusives, and scheduled stories.
- Ensure consistent output of engaging copy, video, and live video packages.
- Coordinate diary planning and forward coverage to ensure readiness for key events.
- Maintain strong editorial judgement and legal accuracy across all content.
- Work closely with colleagues in London and across PA’s editorial desks to align coverage.
- Manage customer relationships and respond to content requests and feedback.
- Promote an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performing newsroom culture.
- Experience managing and reporting at a news agency, national or regional publication, or broadcast newsroom.
- A strong track record of producing fast, accurate, and legally sound copy.
- Excellent understanding of the Scottish news agenda and court reporting experience.
- Fast and accurate shorthand.
- A recognised journalism qualification (NCTJ or equivalent).
- A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle during the day.
- A flexible approach to working evenings, weekends and travelling across Scotland.
- Multimedia production experience, particularly video shooting and editing (desirable).
