We are looking for a talented Photographer to join our Picture Desk, covering Yorkshire and surrounding areas. This is a field-based role at the heart of a 24/7 news operation. You will capture and deliver high-quality images and video from live events to ensure our customers receive compelling, timely and commercially valuable content. You'll be equally comfortable covering breaking news, sport and entertainment, delivering standout visuals that meet the needs of a wide range of clients. This role requires flexibility, including working shifts, evenings and weekends, reflecting the always-on nature of news coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Capturing high-quality photographs and video across news, sport and entertainment
  • Delivering key moments from live events quickly and accurately, directly from camera
  • Editing and preparing images for transmission using industry-standard tools
  • Writing clear, accurate captions and metadata to agreed standards
  • Identifying and developing your own picture stories, alongside assigned work
  • Working closely with reporters, photographers and editors to support coverage
  • Contributing to forward planning by identifying upcoming events and opportunities
  • Ensuring content meets legal, editorial and commercial requirements

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a photographer, ideally in a news or commercial environment
  • A strong eye for storytelling and the ability to capture impactful images under pressure
  • Excellent understanding of the news agenda and how it shapes visual coverage
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately in live situations
  • Experience editing images and transmitting content efficiently
  • A proactive mindset, with the ability to generate original ideas and stories
  • Knowledge of media law and editorial standards
  • It would be beneficial if you also have experience shooting and editing video content
  • Advanced knowledge of photographic equipment and post-production tools
  • Understanding of image transmission workflows and metadata standards
