We are looking for a Law Reporter to join us on a

12-month fixed term contract to contribute to PA’s first-class written coverage of the High Court.

The successful candidate will be part of a team in one of the most high-profile and demanding specialisms at the national news agency.

You will play a key role in delivering detailed coverage of the High Court, ensuring customers receive fast, accurate and engaging reporting across digital and print platforms.

What you will be doing.

  • Produce accurate, fast, impartial and clearly written content for digital and print platforms in line with PA’s core editorial standards
  • Write strong leads and provide rapid updates on developing court cases and judgments
  • Be confident making written and verbal legal arguments when challenging reporting restrictions
  • Identify and develop stories of national significance arising from hearings and judgments
  • Produce detailed background pieces on important legal cases and issues
  • Provide additional content and assets where appropriate, including social media updates, pictures and supporting multimedia content
  • Work closely with fellow reporters, editors and specialist correspondents to deliver comprehensive coverage of major stories
  • Plan coverage to ensure customers know what cases of significance are coming up
  • Support and work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider news operation

What you'll need.

  • Extensive experience of reporting at agency or daily newspaper level
  • Detailed, up-to-date knowledge of the law and a strong understanding of media law
  • Minimum 100wpm shorthand
  • The ability to work accurately and calmly under pressure
  • NCTJ Senior qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of covering UK court cases is essential
  • Experience of covering High Court cases would be highly desirable
  • Experience of producing content for digital platforms as well as print would be beneficial
