We are seeking compassionate and resilient individuals to join our Mental Health Helpline team as Helpline Operators. This frontline role serves as the first point of contact for people seeking mental health support across Derbyshire, providing a calm, non-judgemental response to individuals experiencing distress.
The successful candidate will deliver emotional support, brief interventions, and risk assessments, including suicide risk assessments, helping to reduce escalation to clinical services where appropriate. Responsibilities include:
- Assessing and managing risk
- Supporting safety planning and self-management strategies
- Signposting callers to relevant NHS and community services
- Escalating concerns to clinical teams when necessary
The role also involves maintaining accurate records on NHS systems and working collaboratively with NHS staff, police, and partner agencies to ensure individuals receive appropriate support and care. Building rapport quickly, offering reassurance, and demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and sound judgement will be essential.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator who remains calm under pressure, can confidently assess and respond to risk, and is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work.
