Our client is a leading independent packaging manufacturer with a strong focus on sustainable e-commerce and packaging solutions. The business has established a recognised position in the market by developing recyclable and plastic-free alternatives, supplying both independent retailers and larger online brands. With a reputation for innovation, quality, and environmental responsibility, our client continues to grow its presence across the sectors.

They are currently looking for a National Business Development Manager to drive new business revenue and help scale the organisation's new, high-capacity production facility. This role is focused entirely on outbound new business generation, strategic client acquisition and turning qualified prospects into long-term high value customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Targets: £600K Per Annum in New Sales
  • Year 1 Target: £325,000 increasing £5K per month as follows: Month 1: £0 / Month 2: £5K / Month 3: £10K / Month 4: £15K
  • Expected 20+ Outbound dials per day leading to Meaningful Sales Interactions
  • Minimum 2 Pre-booked Face-to-Face meetings per week
  • No order processing or inbound call handling - role is 100% outbound & growth-focused
  • Most leads provided will be pre-qualified, and full product training will be provided to ensure confidence and technical understanding
  • Research national prospects, markets, product categories, and relevant events/exhibitions
  • Prospect and cold-call using initiative and commercial acumen, supported by tools such as LinkedIn Navigator
  • Convert new and lapsed prospects (20,000+ qualified new; 4,000+ qualified lapsed) into meetings and orders
  • Understand client operations to demonstrate value beyond price
  • Increase participation in packaging tenders
  • Close opportunities ranging from £5,000 to £1,000,000
  • Organise route‑optimised national travel (2-4 visits per road day, first visit at 8:30am)
  • Conduct online and onsite meetings using Outlook, Teams, Zoom, Calendly, etc
  • Log calls efficiently (max 100 characters) and maintain CRM accuracy
  • Attend exhibitions and training sessions as required
  • Comply with company H&S, Quality, and Management policies
  • Support operations where required to ensure overall business efficiency

Requirements:

  • Proven track record in senior‑level sales, ideally selling packaging into ecommerce/retail
  • Highly motivated and capable of working independently
  • Confident engaging with business owners, directors, and major retailers
  • Positive mindset with pride in work, clients, and colleagues
  • Skilled at overcoming objections with persuasive communication
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Comfortable with outbound, unsolicited calling
  • Able to adapt prospecting approach (LinkedIn, Teams, etc.) to maximise effectiveness
  • Excellent communication skills and telephone manner
  • Quick‑thinking, persuasive, and relationship‑oriented
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Organised and efficient with strong attention to detail
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and LinkedIn (CRM training provided)
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (A‑E or equivalent)
