The Engineer will be responsible for the preparation, build and installation of engineering systems in Oyster Yachts in line with the current drawings, specifications, and guidelines.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Building and installing engineering systems on our luxury yachts in build.
- Supporting, and working collaboratively with, other trades during yacht build.
Requirements
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering systems including, but not limited to, hydraulics, plumbing (domestic, marine, grey, black, fresh water), air conditioning, gas installations, engine/gearbox, and final drive installations.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering best practice techniques or methodologies.
- Broad understanding of the requirements for marine engineering installations within yacht or recreational craft.
- Knowledge of construction techniques used in GRP boats.
- Good understanding of current marine engineering technologies.
- Good awareness of H + S requirements, guidelines, and best practice.
Skills:
- Ability to build and install engineering systems in recreational craft.
- Ability to work on own initiative and work collaboratively with other trades.
- Ability to safely use ladders, work on uneven levels and in confined spaces.
- Able to read and interpret Engineering drawings and written specifications.
- Able to safely use hand, power, and bench mounted tools, including polishers and grinders.
- Experience of metal fabrication including TIG welding.
Experience:
- Mechanical engineering installations within the yacht or recreational craft building industry.
- Been in a similar role within the previous 2 years.
- Proven experience in fault finding and problem-solving.
Qualifications:
- City & Guilds qualifications (as a minimum) that supports the candidates Knowledge, Skills, and Experience.
Personal Characteristics:
- Ability to work well under pressure and within tight timescales.
- Team player.
- Self-motivated, time-oriented individual.
- Exceptional attention to detail attitude with a right first-time approach.
Other Requirements:
- Aspire to be a valued member of the engineering team and undertake any other duties that may assist the department, Oyster Yachts, or the Oyster Group.
- Understanding of the yacht or recreational craft construction industry.
