An Essex-based local authority client is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer / PSH Officer to support its Private Sector Housing function on an interim basis.

Background: The team is managing a busy caseload of complaints-driven work, including housing conditions, HMOs, and statutory nuisance. This role will play a key part in maintaining compliance and supporting effective enforcement action.

Responsibilities: Working within Environmental Health, you will:

  • Investigate complaints relating to housing conditions
  • Manage HMO-related casework and enforcement
  • Support investigations into statutory nuisance where required
  • Serve notices and take appropriate enforcement action
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and council policies
  • Contribute to delivering a professional, high-quality regulatory service

Skills and Experience:

  • Strong experience within Private Sector Housing
  • Knowledge of HMO regulation and enforcement
  • Statutory nuisance experience desirable but not essential
  • Ability to manage varied and complex casework
  • Degree or equivalent in Environmental Health (desirable)

Contract Details:

  • 3-month interim contract
  • £45–£50 per hour (Umbrella)
  • Inside IR35
  • 2 days per week on site requirement
