We’re looking for a hands-on Technical Author to take full ownership of our customer-facing documentation across a growing product portfolio. In this role, you’ll lead the documentation strategy and deliver high-quality content including “getting started” guides, API and configuration references, and full product technical manuals. The Technical Author manages the complete documentation lifecycle end-to-end, planning, writing, reviewing, and working closely with engineers and product teams to ensure our customers have clear, accurate, and accessible information that helps them get the most from our technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the documentation portfolio for current and upcoming products, defining scope, standards, and priorities.
- Produce clear, structured customer-facing content including getting-started guides, user manuals, installation and configuration guides, troubleshooting materials, videos, and reference documentation.
- Translate complex engineering concepts into accurate, accessible documentation for technical users and integrators, using a range of media and publication channels.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and customer support to gather information, verify accuracy, and incorporate feedback.
- Create and maintain templates, style guides, and documentation workflows to ensure consistency across the product set.
- Manage documentation releases alongside product releases, keeping content synchronised with firmware and software updates.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
- In-depth experience creating customer-facing documentation for technology or engineering products (hardware, software, embedded systems, navigation/GNSS, networking, IoT, or similar).
- Proven ability to author both comprehensive product manuals and concise getting-started guides.
- Experience launching technical documentation across different channels and media.
- A natural, collaborative approach that draws on technical and domain experts across the business.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams to gather subject-matter expertise.
- Solid technical comprehension, with the ability to read engineering specifications, sample code, diagrams, and translate them into user-focused content.
- Clear, concise technical writing skills combined with strong editing capability.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset with the ability to manage multiple documentation projects and release timelines.
Desirable:
- Related degree preferred, not required.
- Experience with hardware, software, and API documentation, including sample code and advanced command descriptions.
- Familiarity with documentation publishing platforms (e.g., Read the Docs, Confluence, static site generators) and automated documentation build processes.
- Background or interest in navigation systems (GPS/GNSS), mapping, or vehicle/embedded systems.
