Reporting to the Electronics Manager, the Senior Electronics Engineer is responsible for the design, development and release of production-quality hardware and embedded firmware for our products. This role covers the full product lifecycle, from feasibility and concept through to production release and ongoing support, including digital and analogue circuits, microprocessor systems and embedded software. The Senior Electronics Engineer takes end-to-end ownership of product development and release activities, ensuring robust, manufacturable and compliant solutions are delivered into full production. This is a hands-on, hardware-led role requiring strong expertise in both hardware design and embedded firmware development. Experience delivering production-ready products is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to the design and development of complex hardware for new and existing products, covering the full product lifecycle from concept through to production release.
- Design and develop production-quality hardware, ensuring designs are robust, manufacturable and compliant.
- Develop embedded firmware for microprocessor-based systems across the full software lifecycle, including requirements capture, design, implementation, testing and release management.
- Take end-to-end ownership of product development and release processes, ensuring successful transition from prototype to production and supporting multiple product releases.
- Apply DFM/DFA principles and support product approval processes, including EMC and certification requirements.
- Contribute to the implementation of wired and wireless communication technologies, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi and/or cellular connectivity, supporting both practical implementation and compliance activities.
- Manage and track complex development tasks and projects, working to deadlines and adapting plans to meet delivery objectives.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including R&D, Production and Marketing to resolve issues and deliver successful outcomes.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing products and develop proposals for new product development.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
- Contribute constructively to technical discussions, challenging assumptions where appropriate and supporting continuous improvement.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Experience
- A degree in Electronics Engineering, or relevant related degree plus experience, is required.
- Strong general electronics engineering background with a hardware focus.
- Expert knowledge of digital and analogue electronics.
- Proven hands-on experience in both hardware design and embedded firmware development.
- Experience delivering production-ready electronic products into full production.
- Experience managing work across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to production release.
- Knowledge and practical application of DFM/DFA principles.
- Experience of product approval processes including EMC.
- Experience working with modern platforms and technologies.
- Experience with wired and wireless communication technologies, including Ethernet, Wi-Fi and/or cellular connectivity, and associated certification/compliance processes.
- Exposure to multiple product releases.
