Inviting Artists, Creatives, Musicians & Cultural Organisations to join the voluntary GAON Advisory Board! Green Arts Oxfordshire Network is looking for creative voices, and representatives of cultural organisations to play a central role in the development of our grassroots network, having a say in decision making and direction as members of our volunteer Advisory Board. Joining the Advisory Board is a great opportunity to strengthen relationships between artists and organisation based GAON members, working together to lead local action against the climate and ecological crisis.

The GAON Advisory Board connects and builds the green arts community, harnessing the arts to work towards climate justice and regenerative futures in Oxfordshire. This role is voluntary, though we seek funding to remove barriers to participation.

Current GAON Advisory Board Members:

  • Becca Vallins, Deputy Director of The Old Fire Station
  • Katherine Chesson, Director of Community Action Groups Oxfordshire
  • Kieran Cox, Director of Fusion Arts

More information:

  • Represent and engage artists, cultural organisations and community groups as a unifying force for change.
  • Measurably reduce carbon emissions through delivering Carbon Literacy Training to Oxfordshire’s cultural sector.
  • Signpost to relevant resources (local and arts specific).
  • Lead in the support and creation of green events that harness the power of culture to communicate, facilitating connections, collaboration and knowledge sharing between members of the network.
  • Encourage members to consider both the direct carbon impact of their operations and the messages within their creative work.

Purpose of the Advisory Board:

  • To act as a resource and advisor to the GAON Project Leader, influencing GAON activities.
  • To ensure the agreed plans are delivered.
  • To represent GAON when required to do so.
  • To support the fundraising endeavours of GAON.

Membership:

  • Members should represent a diversity of organisations and artists in terms of art form and include members with expertise that the committee is missing.
  • In an acknowledgement of the need to consider social justice in the work of climate action, the committee should have a diversity of voices, and will actively look to remove barriers to access and representation.
  • All GAON Advisory Board members should be Charter signatories.

Advisory Board Meetings:

  • The committee will meet monthly as a board.
  • Interested members are asked to attend quarterly meetings dedicated to fundraising/business plan, and occasional meetings focused on specific projects.
  • Board members will volunteer to take notes by rotation.

We'd like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to the following people who have now moved on from GAON's Advisory Board, but have played a fundamental role in establishing the network since 2021:
