OQC is a fast-growing quantum computing company at the cutting edge of deep-tech innovation. As a Financial Reporting & Controls Accountant, this role blends core financial accounting, driving control and process improvements along with grant accounting - offering the chance to help build robust, scalable finance processes while gaining broad exposure across a growing finance function.
You’re a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) who’s built progressive experience in practice or a commercial finance team, with knowledge of month-end close processes and detailed balance sheet reconciliations. You’ve supported internal and external audits, worked confidently with IFRS, and have the skills to help drive a strong internal controls environment.
You’ll work closely with our Group Financial Controller, Beccy Pflaeger and the key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the month-end and year-end close, owning critical journals and helping shape a disciplined, well-run close process as the business scales.
- Build confidence in the balance sheet by taking ownership of key reconciliations, digging into detail, strengthening controls, and partnering with the Group Financial Controller to evolve smarter, more robust approaches.
- Own grant accounting lifecycle which includes leading the tracking, accounting and reporting of grant funding whilst partnering with internal teams and acting as the go-to expert for grant compliance and audits.
- Raise the bar on controls and processes by documenting, improving and future-proofing the finance processes, controls and policies, contributing to a strong control environment that can grow with the company.
- Shape how finance works at scale and support system and process improvements, helping design and implement new ways of working as technology, complexity and ambition increase.
- Turn data into insight whilst maintaining integrity across systems like NetSuite and core financial models, while developing clear, meaningful reports that support decision-making across the business.
- Partner with the business to deliver ad-hoc analysis and deep-dives that help leaders understand performance, evaluate opportunities and make informed strategic decisions.
- Be a trusted technical voice that supports audits with confidence and act as a mentor within the finance team, sharing knowledge and helping lift capability as the function grows.
You’ll be confident working in Excel, using tools like pivot tables, lookups and scenario analysis to build and improve models that support clear, reliable reporting. You communicate well, manage your time independently, and are comfortable turning complex financial detail into practical insight for a wide range of stakeholders. You bring strong financial and ethical judgement, a sharp eye for detail, and the tenacity to identify problems through to resolution. You’re someone who takes initiative, spots opportunities to improve data, systems or processes, and cares deeply about quality.
Experience with finance systems such as NetSuite, macros or advanced data handling is a plus, particularly if you’ve worked with technology or R&D-driven businesses. At OQC, these skills help finance play a critical role in supporting innovation, growth and long-term impact. By joining OQC, you’ll power the financial engine behind quantum innovation – turning sharp insight and tight control into the foundations we need to scale globally.
