Oxford Digital is the team behind The Oxford Magazine, a fast-growing online platform with over two million page views annually. We connect readers with the best of Oxford and Oxfordshire.

As our coverage expands, so too has the number of requests we receive from local restaurants, eateries, and bars eager to have their stories told through reviews, features, and interviews.

Responsibilities

As a Contributing Food & Drink Writer, you’ll:

  • Attend new restaurant or menu launches, themed nights, food festivals, and tasting sessions.
  • Interview chefs, venue representatives, and industry leaders to capture their stories.
  • Write engaging reviews and features that highlight food presentation, flavour, service, and overall experience.
  • Provide original photography to accompany your stories, or coordinate with venues to source approved images.

Requirements

We’re not asking for any formal qualifications; what matters most is creativity and passion. You’ll bring:

  • A flair for the written word, producing engaging and insightful reviews.
  • Strong storytelling skills with the ability to capture the atmosphere of a venue.
  • The ability to deliver clear, fair, and consistent appraisals of restaurants, menus, and service.
  • An interest in building a portfolio of published work in food and lifestyle writing.

This role is especially suited to those working in other fields (or areas of journalism) who want to make a name for themselves as food writers or reviewers.

What We Offer

  • Meals and/or drinks in lieu of payment, usually for you and one guest – ideal for portfolio building.
  • Occasional paid commissions on a per-article or per-word basis, depending on experience. You’ll always be informed in advance.
