Job Overview
The Cardiology Ward is a bedded unit located within the Oxford Heart Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
The position is a substantive appointment for a Cardiology Ward Sister/Charge Nurse on the John Radcliffe site of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The Sister/Charge Nurse will be a highly experienced and knowledgeable clinical leader with experience in an acute cardiac care setting, providing strong clinical and professional leadership to the ward team.
They will act as a visible role model, promote best practice, ensure delivery of safe, effective care, and develop the ward team to provide compassionate care.
Work will be carried out in partnership with the Lead Nurse, Matron, and directorate management team to develop processes that enhance the patient experience.
Duties of the Post
- Be visible, identifiable and accessible to patients, relatives and all staff, providing overall leadership, direction and vision for the service.
- Provide an excellent standard of evidence‑based care delivery within the unit while acting as an effective role model.
- Apply good knowledge and skills to manage complex and changing health‑care needs of cardiac patients.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Cardiothoracic Directorate and multidisciplinary team to promote a culture that enhances the patient’s experience.
- Focus on staff well‑being and their development and education, ensuring they have the correct skills and knowledge to care for patients within the Cardiology Ward/ACCU.
- Participate in service development or re‑design and maintain a clinical commitment within the acute cardiac care unit.
