- Band Lipid Specialist Nurse
- Overview
An experienced and motivated nurse is needed to join the Lipid Service at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based within the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM).
This specialist role works within a regional secondary and tertiary lipid service, providing expert care for patients with complex dyslipidaemias, including familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) and other inherited lipid disorders.
Responsibilities
- Assess and manage new and follow‑up patients referred to the lipid service, including undertaking cardiovascular risk assessment.
- Lead nurse‑led clinics (face‑to‑face, virtual and telephone) and develop evidence‑based management plans for dyslipidaemia and inherited lipid disorders.
- Support cascade testing, family screening and biochemical/genetic testing, and provide patient education and continuity of care with primary care.
- Identify patients eligible for advanced lipid therapies such as PCSK‑i inhibitors and contribute to pathway and protocol development.
- Run quality improvement activities, clinical audit, service evaluation, data collection and contribute to research activity.
- Maintain CPD, appraisal, supervision and revalidation, keep practice in line with guidance and support colleague education and service leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
- Registered nurse with a nursing degree and Band 7 experience or equivalent.
- Experience in lipidology or a related clinical specialty, including assessment of inherited lipid disorders.
- Proficiency in cardiovascular risk assessment, patient education and multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Demonstrated ability to run and manage patient clinics and to document accurately.
- Experience with prescribing or medication review where qualified.
- Commitment to continuous professional development, audit, and research participation.
