The new consultants are required to join the on‑call groups of anaesthetists at John Radcliffe Hospital, the Nuffield Orthopaedics Centre and Churchill Hospital, all part of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. These posts are replacement posts following retirements and suit anaesthetists seeking a consultant career in a major teaching hospital with expertise in major cancer surgery, complex vascular procedures, major trauma, orthopaedics and plastic trauma surgery.
The Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics is one of the largest departments in the country and is known for its friendly, diverse and inclusive team, supported by outstanding surgical colleagues. The department provides a comprehensive elective and emergency service across a wide range of surgical and diagnostic specialties.
The focus of this post is the delivery of high‑quality anaesthesia for major cancer surgery, complex vascular procedures, major trauma, orthopaedics and plastic trauma surgery. In addition, flexible sessions allow the post‑holder to maintain an interest and skill set in other areas of anaesthesia. Out of hours the post‑holder will be on call to provide emergency cover for general surgery, trauma, specialist surgery including vascular procedures, plastics, ENT, stroke thrombectomy and transplantation, depending upon their specialist interests and clinical experience.
