The Children’s Neuromuscular service is part of the Oxford Muscle service and provides care and support for children and young people (CYP) diagnosed with neuromuscular disorders within the hospital and in the community. The multidisciplinary team facilitates diagnosis and treatment of CYP with neuromuscular disorders, both inpatient and outpatient, providing families, carers and young people with appropriate education and support to manage their disorder. The service is regional and serves a large geographical area including Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Wiltshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist nursing care to CYP with neuromuscular disorders across acute and community settings.
  • Provide clinical care and run a practitioner‑led steroid clinic.
  • Perform venepuncture and cannulation once competent.
  • Empower families through education and health promotion, aiming to reduce the burden of care and improve understanding of conditions and treatments.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team and national networks; develop autonomy and expertise under guidance.
