Job Overview

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Anaesthetic and Recovery Nurses or Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) to join our team within the Gynaecology and Obstetric Theatres at the Women’s Centre, John Radcliffe Hospital. The department comprises five theatres and two recovery areas, providing care for a wide range of elective and emergency obstetric and gynaecological procedures. As a Band post-holder, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safe and effective delivery of anaesthetic and perioperative care to women throughout their surgical journey. You will provide high‑quality patient care, supporting both anaesthetic and recovery processes, and contributing to the smooth operation of the theatre suite. The role requires flexibility to work a rota that includes days, nights, weekends, and bank holidays, with the following shift patterns: :–:, :–:, :–:, and :–:. Responsibilities

You will be responsible for providing safe and effective anaesthetic and perioperative care to patients undergoing obstetric and gynaecological procedures. This includes preparing patients and theatre environments, assisting with anaesthesia induction, monitoring patients during surgery, and supporting recovery in the post‑operative period. You will work closely with the theatre team to maintain high standards of patient care and ensure efficient theatre flow.

Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate patient records, adhering to infection control and health and safety standards, participating in departmental audits and quality improvement initiatives, and responding appropriately to emergencies. Flexibility, excellent communication, and a commitment to delivering patient‑centred care are essential to succeed in this role.
