Job Title: Specialist Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery
A full-time post as Specialist Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery is available for 1 year, with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 2 years, at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, primarily based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
The Cardiothoracic unit covers all aspects of adult Cardiothoracic Surgery, including on- and off-pump CABG, aortic and mitral valve surgery, aortic aneurysm surgery, extended lung resection, VATS, endobronchial stents, and thymectomies, excluding transplantation. The department requires participation in clinical research, audit, and teaching.
This post is not approved for training and does not carry an NTN. It is most suitable for someone early in their training seeking further experience in Cardiac and/or Thoracic Surgery. Duties include participation in inpatient and outpatient activities, operating theatre, MDTs, outpatient clinics, and postoperative rounds. The post involves full-shift on-call duties (currently 1:8), managing referrals and covering the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit.
Applicants must hold a GMC Full Licence to Practice, MRCS or equivalent, and have completed Core Surgical Training or equivalent. Desirable criteria include 6 months registrar-level training in cardiothoracic surgery, experience assisting in operations, managing emergency referrals, CALS qualification, leadership skills, and experience with emergency procedures.
Appropriate UK professional registration is required. The successful candidate will have access to vulnerable people, and the post is subject to DBS disclosure under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020.
