Job Overview

The main duties of House keeper is to work as an integral part of the ward team ensuring a high quality service and environment for patients and to liaise with the nursing team, patients and families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as an integral part of the SEU triage team ensuring a high‑quality service to patients and to provide a service that ensures patients\’ needs are satisfied and unit requirements are met.
  • Assist the SEU triage Sister to ensure the appropriate and effective delivery of facilities services in order to properly maintain the patient environment.
  • Supervise an effective waste segregation and disposal service ensuring compliance with all relevant procedures and legislation.
  • Work effectively as part of the ward/department team.
  • Ensure patients have appropriate food and drink provided.
  • Contribute to monthly cleaning audits and assist with any learning for the team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person with excellent organisational skills to join our team. The main focus of this role is to maintain a pleasant and welcoming environment for patients and families by ensuring the unit is kept clean, tidy and well stocked. The role also involves supporting the nursing team with the delivery of patient food and beverages.

Candidate Profile

The successful applicant will be proactive and able to work with the public in a fast‑paced environment, with excellent communication and organisational skills. They will also work well with our well‑established housekeeping team across the SEU wards, to ensure effective collaboration across all departments. If you are highly motivated, compassionate, with a desire to progress and develop your skills within a challenging working environment, we would welcome your application.

Core Requirements

  • Literate, articulate and numerate
  • Effective use of spoken English
  • Knowledge of COSHH and Infection Control Policies, or the ability to undertake training in this area
  • Basic computer skills

  • Experience in the acute NHS
  • Previous experience as House keeper or in a similar role
  • Ability to escalates and communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Good team player
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to prioritise
  • Flexible and adaptable in his/her work to situations, able to manage own time effectively
  • Aware of the importance of maintaining confidentiality
