We are excited to announce an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Clinical Educator to join the current team on CTCCU.

In collaboration with the Practice Development nurse, the Clinical Educator will coordinate, plan and deliver the critical care foundation programme and other education programmes. The post holder will facilitate the development of clinical staff in the assessment of the care needs for all patients, ensuring that planned care is appropriate, implemented and evaluated.

The post holder will act as an effective clinical leader and role model to enhance the clinical competence and improve the fundamentals of care within Cardiothoracic Critical Care.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with the education team, the Clinical Educator develops, delivers and evaluates educational programmes for new and existing nursing staff and nursing assistants within Cardiothoracic Critical Care. The post holder will be integral in the promotion of an environment that encourages learning and sustains the personal and professional development of staff. In collaboration with the Practice Development Nurse, the post holder coordinates the supervision, assessment and development of clinical skills of the nursing team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible, as part of a team, for the delivery of education to new and current staff on the Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit. This includes clinical teaching and formal teaching on the collaborative critical care foundation programme.

Person specification

Clinical / Education

  • Two years experience within a critical care environment at band 5
  • Possession of a critical care course at level 6 or level 7
  • Possession of a mentoring qualification or practice assessor supervisor qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Postgraduate certificate in practice education
