The postholder will work within the Maternity Directorate in the multidisciplinary team to promote a culture of staff and patient safety.
To coordinate, monitor, and develop risk management systems within the directorate.
To support the maternity clinical governance manager in developing and implementing the clinical governance framework.
To coordinate timely and effective investigations of incidents.
The post holder is responsible for their own practice and is expected to maintain a high standard of professional expertise, ensuring the highest standard of midwifery care during the ante-natal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
The postholder will provide professional leadership and mentoring to less experienced midwives and support colleagues in a multidisciplinary team.
They will work clinically 0.2 WTE each week, which may include nights and weekends, either in a clinical area or as an operational bleep holder.
The postholder will represent the department at local, Trust, and system-wide meetings as required.
Excellent verbal and written communication, leadership, and facilitation skills are essential.
Responsibilities include coordinating the incident reporting system daily, investigating serious untoward incidents, and representing the directorate at Trust-wide forums.
They will liaise with the Maternity and Newborn Safety Investigations to support independent investigations and interviews, supporting staff involved in incidents and investigations.
Facilitates an environment where patient safety and quality, especially risk management, are perceived as essential to care and wellbeing.
Promotes a culture of participation, openness, and accountability within the Directorate, listening to staff concerns and raising them with the Governance Lead and Senior Midwifery Team.
Supports local investigations on PSIRF responses, interviewing staff as needed, producing reports with recommendations and action plans to reduce risks.
Responsible for grading and inputting incident reports, managing Ulysses to produce trend reports.
Develops close working relationships with the Patient Safety Team, Trust Risk Manager, and Corporate Risk Management team.
