This post offers sub-specialty experience in managing complex lung infections. The post holder will receive training in adult cystic fibrosis (CF), bronchiectasis, non-tuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease, and related lung infections. It is ideal for a Respiratory trainee seeking out-of-programme experience during specialist training. The position is based at the Oxford Centre for Respiratory Medicine within Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will support the adult bronchiectasis, lung infection, and CF multidisciplinary team (MDT) in caring for inpatients, outpatients, and day-case patients. Opportunities include participating in departmental education, teaching at the Oxford Centre of Respiratory Medicine, and engaging in quality improvement projects related to lung infection. The department actively participates in research, and the post-holder will be encouraged to involve themselves in clinical studies.

Primarily, the duties are based at the Oxford Adult CF & Bronchiectasis Centre on the John Radcliffe Hospital site, with flexibility to work at other Trust locations. The main role involves providing middle-grade support to the CF and bronchiectasis MDT under the supervision of lead consultants Dr Stephen Chapman, Dr William Flowers, and Dr Natasha Hough.

Specific duties include:

  1. Bronchiectasis outpatient clinics
  2. Adult CF outpatient clinics
  3. Participation in lung infection MDT meetings
  4. Inpatient respiratory care, including ward rounds and duties
  5. Practical responsibilities in CF & bronchiectasis care
  6. Review of unscheduled attenders
  7. Admission of patients during working hours
  8. Contributing to national and regional databases
  9. Review and act on test results
  10. Involvement in audit, quality improvement, and research activities
