About the role

  • Role type: Fixed term, residential
  • Dates: For course dates between end of June and end of August 2025
  • Working pattern: Saturday to Saturday, up to 60 hours per week on a shift pattern with overnight duties. 1 day off per week.
  • Reports to: Deputy Course Director

As a Course Leader, you’ll be responsible for a group of up to 25 international students on our residential summer courses. You’ll foster a positive and welcoming residential environment, manage student welfare, lead trips and activities and ensure the smooth running of the programmes.

Main duties

  • Responsibility for students - Building rapport and following the course structure, including taking a register at set times each day and setting behaviour expectations.
  • Pastoral care - Ensuring a swift response to any welfare, safeguarding, disciplinary or other issues whilst on course.
  • Activity planning and delivery - Supporting the Course Director and Activity and Excursions Coordinator in delivering the social and cultural programme including excursions, day trips, and restaurant meals for your group.
  • Staff management - Managing the performance and behaviour of a small team of Course Coordinators.
  • Atmosphere - Fostering a positive work environment within your team and the wider team on site.
  • Residential duties - Up to 10 hrs per week, as part of the residential team including morning registrations, meal time supervision, curfew checks and overnight phone duty.

About you

  • You’re a great planner and are well-organised.
  • You’re able to look after a group of students, with a firm but friendly approach to maintain discipline whilst ensuring a great student experience.
  • You have a strong passion for education, student experience and development.
  • You’re comfortable managing a range of responsibilities, including admin and ensuring student engagement in all aspects of the course.

Essential

  • Experience of working with young people in a residential setting.
  • Clear evidence of excellent communication skills and an ability to lead a team and a diverse group of students.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety procedures in a residential or educational setting.
  • Experience planning and conducting activities to a set budget.
  • Familiarity with Oxford and/or Cambridge.
