Oxford Space Systems develops innovative deployable antennas for Space. Our aim is to be the global leader in this field, providing effective solutions today for the space-based services of the future. We are leveraging innovations from beyond the space sector to make our antennas smaller, lighter and cheaper than traditional designs.
This is an exciting time to join us as we scale up for the future, having already delivered multiple systems for operational satellites with in-orbit deployment success, and significant investment in our facilities with a state-of-the-art head office at Harwell and a bespoke manufacturing facility in Abingdon.
As a composites technician you will be responsible for the assembly and testing of hardware and supporting process documentation to meet quality standards. You will perform manufacturing of composites/fibre-based material components and support day-to-day MAIT activities for Oxford Space Systems to ensure successful delivery of the MAIT phase of internal and external funded projects.
You will report to the Senior MAIT Manager and be part of a small team. Ideally, you will be apprentice trained within a mechanical discipline. You will possess a strong discipline in following processes, procedures and engineering knowledge with strong experience in the assembly of precision components.
You will have knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of composite manufacturing, along with practical experience of composites manufacturing and assembly procedures. A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of detailed engineering drawings, surface finishes, tolerances, and materials is essential.
You will be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software, have a pragmatic and logical approach to problem-solving, and possess excellent interpersonal and team working skills. Strong written/verbal communication skills, organisational skills, task management, and multi-tasking skills are also required, along with the ability to use your own initiative.
Having a background in the space industry and knowledge of ECSS standards would be advantageous.
