Teaching is a central part of the Engineering Summer School programme at Oxford Royale. We are seeking a teacher who is passionate about introducing students to the fundamentals of engineering, including mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering concepts. The ideal teacher will use real-world examples and challenges to inspire students to explore the practical applications of engineering and develop problem‑solving skills. Lessons should engage students in critical thinking, collaboration, and applying theory to practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and adapt lessons using the Teacher’s Guide, ensuring content meets the interests and academic levels of students.
  • Deliver inspiring lessons that introduce key engineering principles, including design, construction, and innovation.
  • Use subject expertise to ensure student progress, offering personalized feedback and adapting tasks to meet individual learning needs.
  • Lead practical workshops, simulations, and projects that apply engineering theory to real‑world scenarios.
  • Mark assignments, provide detailed feedback, and complete student reports reflecting individual progress.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including maintaining registers and attending staff meetings.
  • Work with fellow teaching staff to foster a collaborative and stimulating learning environment.

Person Specification

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in engineering or a related field, with awareness of current industry trends and innovations.
  • Passion for inspiring students and fostering their interest in engineering and technological innovation.
  • Ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly and adapt teaching methods to different learning styles.
  • Creative and confident teaching approach, encouraging problem‑solving and hands‑on learning.
  • Fluency in English and strong organizational skills.

Position Details

  • Programmes are two weeks in length, with options for 2, or 4‑week contracts available in July 2026.
  • Teaching takes place Monday to Friday, with lessons scheduled from 09:00 to 15:00, although shorter hours may be available in some locations.
  • Compulsory online and in‑person training will be required before starting the role.
  • While key teaching materials are provided, teachers are expected to adapt lesson plans to suit student interests and contribute their own expertise to the course.

Essential Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree (or higher) in Engineering or a closely related field.

Desirable Qualifications / Experience

  • Experience teaching engineering or related subjects to students aged 12-18.
  • PGCE or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional experience in engineering or related sectors.
