Oxford Nanopore Technologies aims to bring the widest benefits to society through enabling the analysis of anything, by anyone, anywhere. The company has developed a new generation of nanopore-based sensing technology for faster, information-rich, accessible and affordable molecular analysis. The first application is DNA/RNA sequencing, and the technology is in development for the analysis of other types of molecules including proteins. The technology is used to understand and characterise the biology of humans and diseases such as cancer, plants, animals, bacteria, viruses, and whole environments.

We are looking for a highly motivated and driven individual to join the Technical Services team as a Technical Applications Scientist covering specific regions in Europe & UK. This role will suit someone with a scientific background and a dedication to customer service and satisfaction. This role can either be based in France or the UK. If the successful candidate is based in the UK, this will be a hybrid role, with 3 days on site in Oxford and 2 working from home. Please note that during the initial training period, 5 days on site would be expected.

This exciting and challenging role involves working within a cross-functional team to provide high-quality technical expertise and representation for ONT products. You will work to strengthen the company’s relationship with scientists to ensure the application of our products to their research. You will assist customers in experimental design, product installation, use of wet and dry lab products, data analysis, and workflow implementation and validation, in collaboration with other internal and customer-facing teams!

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing front-line applications support to customers on all aspects of the Nanopore sequencing workflow by email, phone and live chat.
  • Escalating to senior team members as required.
  • Troubleshooting, learning and implementing new methods of identifying customer problems, uncovering their needs and suggesting working solutions based on our products.
  • Recording and documenting all relevant information from customers and prospective customers into the CRM with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

We expect you to have a scientific background and dedication to customer service. Below are key qualifications:

  • A BSc degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field like Molecular Biology, Genetics, Life Sciences etc.
  • An understanding of NGS, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology and related fields.
  • Proficiency in a European language (French or Italian) to a C1 level is required.
  • Technical competency to understand and clearly discuss fundamental theory and principles of experimental design, techniques and results; to stay current in technical knowledge.
  • An approachable manner that encourages interaction with others and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills and ability to manage different priorities.
