We are looking for an Organic Social Media Lead to join our Marketing team. This role is responsible for owning and leading Oxford Nanopore’s organic social strategy, setting direction across channels to drive reach, engagement and brand impact.

Job Summary: The Social Media Lead is responsible for owning and growing Oxford Nanopore's organic social media presence. They will be comfortable independently managing channels, leading on social-first content creation, and making data-driven decisions that improve performance. This is a hands-on, individual contributor role suited to someone who is as confident shooting and editing a reel as they are presenting a monthly analytics report and simplifying complex scientific breakthroughs. They will work closely with the Paid Social Lead to ensure organic and paid activity are aligned on the delivery of cross-functional marketing campaigns and promotion of flagship events. A key part of this role is translating complex scientific content into formats that engage and inspire audiences across platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Organic social media management: Own and lead Oxford Nanopore’s organic social strategy, manage channels day-to-day, maintain a structured content calendar, identify trends, and adapt strategy accordingly.
- Social-first content creation: Write platform-appropriate copy, generate content for corporate channels, create social-first content including reels and videos, and condense long-form scientific content into engaging social copy.
- Campaigns & cross-channel alignment: Develop organic social plans to support marketing campaigns, work closely with the paid social lead to align messaging and creative.
- Events & cross-functional support: Drive social media promotion for flagship global events and ensure social activity aligns with brand voice and campaign goals.
- Data, reporting & optimisation: Produce and present monthly performance reports, use data to make decisions, track KPIs, and flag risks and opportunities.
Person specification
Essential:
- Degree in life sciences or a related field or demonstrable understanding of scientific communication.
- Proven track record managing organic social media channels independently.
- Experience producing native social-first content.
- Background translating complex or technical content into compelling social copy.
- Hands-on use of social media management or scheduling platforms.
Desirable:
- Further marketing or digital media qualifications.
- Knowledge of genomics or sequencing technologies preferred.
- Experience in the life sciences or biotech sector.
- Experience managing social media for a B2B brand with a scientific audience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- An eye for design and detail.
- Excellent written skills, able to adapt tone to audience and platform.
- Strong social-first content creation skills.
- Data-literate: confident interrogating platform analytics.
- Understanding of algorithm behaviour across key platforms.
- Able to independently own and manage the organic social calendar end-to-end.
- Basic graphic design, video editing and Canva/Photoshop skills.
- Digital marketing experience.
