Oligonucleotide Production Scientist
Oxford Nanopore Technologies | Harwell Campus
We are seeking an Oligonucleotide Production Scientist to join our Oligonucleotide Facility Production team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment supporting the manufacture and optimisation of oligonucleotides used in Oxford Nanopore's sequencing technology.
As part of a team focused on innovation, quality and continuous improvement, you will play a key role in the production, characterisation and delivery of high-quality oligonucleotides while helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
The Role
Based at our Harwell Campus site, you will support oligonucleotide production activities, maintain laboratory operations and contribute to process development within an ISO 9001-compliant environment. This role is ideal for someone with strong laboratory experience, excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the production and analysis of oligonucleotides used in Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology.
- Perform laboratory-based techniques, including HPLC analysis and purification (experience desirable but not essential).
- Prepare reagents, buffers and mobile phases required for production activities.
- Manage laboratory consumables, stock levels and internal ordering processes.
- Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, including pipettes and centrifuges.
- Contribute to the development, optimisation and documentation of manufacturing processes.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards, SOPs and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Maintain a safe, organised and efficient laboratory environment.
- Accurately document laboratory activities and report issues in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with scientists and production colleagues to troubleshoot and resolve workflow challenges.
About You
We're looking for a motivated scientist with laboratory experience in a relevant scientific discipline who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
You will ideally have:
- A BSc or MSc in a relevant scientific subject.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Experience following and creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and associated maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of chemical handling and reagent preparation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with HPLC or related analytical techniques.
- Experience working within a regulated or GxP laboratory environment.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or production-based laboratory workflows.
