We’re looking for an experienced Tax Manager to join on a 6-month contract. This is a hands-on role supporting the group tax function, with responsibility for corporate tax compliance and reporting across the global group. You’ll work closely with the Associate Director of Tax, reporting into the Tax Director, in a fast-paced, scaling environment where tax is central to the business. This role suits a qualified accountant or tax specialist with a strong accounting foundation who’s comfortable operating at pace and getting into the detail.
What you’ll be doing:
- Owning the corporate tax compliance process (outsourced) for the UK group and overseas subsidiaries, including managing deadlines, coordinating data, liaising with advisors, and reviewing returns
- Assisting with elements of corporate tax compliance, including the R&D tax credit claim, requiring detailed tax analysis and commercial understanding
- Managing aspects of year-end and interim group tax reporting, including planning, coordination with finance/advisors/auditors, tax workbooks, and disclosures
- Leading transfer pricing compliance across the group, including managing deadlines, preparing master and local files, and reviewing calculations
- Identifying and driving process improvement opportunities, including the use of technology where appropriate
- Supporting monthly tax-related management reporting, including balance sheet reconciliations, journals, and presentations
- Handling tax administration (advisor quotes and invoices, budgeting and accruals, purchase orders, and tax authority correspondence)
- Arranging preparation of tax-related forms and returns (e.g. certificates of residency, withholding tax returns)
- Supporting ad hoc tax projects and research (e.g. global expansion, patent box, tax efficiency, transfer pricing)
- Assisting with group tax enquiries as required
- Managing your own professional development and staying up to date with relevant tax law changes
What we’re looking for:
- Qualified accountant and tax specialist with 3 years’ post-qualified tax experience
- Strong understanding of tax accounting and double-entry bookkeeping
- High attention to detail with the ability to critically review your own work
- Excellent organisation and project management skills
- Able to prioritise effectively and work well under pressure, with sound judgement and pragmatism
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a drive to improve processes and create efficiencies
- Confident written and verbal communication skills
- IT skills, including strong Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Collaborative team player who can also work independently
- Ability to delegate and develop team members
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience working in industry
- Experience working in or with listed businesses
- Experience with D365 accounting software (or equivalent)
- Experience or interest in tax technology and automation
- Experience or interest in Biotechnology businesses
