We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Data Steward to support data hygiene, quality, and governance initiatives across Oxford Nanopore. This role will be responsible for maintaining high-quality, reliable data across key business systems focused on Salesforce, ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and compliant with internal standards and regulatory requirements. The Data Steward will work cross-functionally with commercial, marketing, finance, and business systems (IT) teams to improve data integrity, define governance practices, and enable data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Data Quality & Hygiene
- Own data quality monitoring and improvement initiatives in Salesforce, with supporting knowledge of Magento and Dynamics 365 data structures and workflows.
- Identify and resolve data inconsistencies, duplicates, and inaccuracies, ensure data lineage is clear, mapped and managed.
- Implement and manage data cleansing routines and enrichment processes.
- Define and track data quality metrics (completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness).
- Support and lead large-scale data cleansing initiatives across core systems, ensuring alignment with established data governance standards and business rules.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute bulk data remediation activities (e.g., deduplication, standardization, enrichment) while minimizing business disruption.
- Data Governance
- Define, develop and enforce of data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Ensure adherence to data management best practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR where applicable).
- Maintain data definitions, ownership models, and metadata documentation.
- Partner with data owners and stakeholders to establish clear accountability for data assets.
- Driving change via Process and System Improvement
- Collaborate with system owners and IT to improve data capture processes and validation rules.
- Recommend enhancements to workflows and system configurations to prevent data quality issues at source.
- Support implementation of data governance tools and frameworks.
- Participate in major change/system implementations and data migration projects to ensure data quality and governance standards are applied.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a point of contact for data-related queries, issues and incidents across business teams.
- Provide guidance and training to users on data standards and best practices.
- Work closely with analytics teams to ensure data is fit for reporting and insights.
- Monitoring & Reporting
- Work with data and analytics to develop dashboards and reports to track data quality KPIs.
- Conduct regular audits of data across systems.
- Communicate findings, risks, and improvement opportunities to stakeholders.
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 [Optional: Data quality tools, BI tools like Power BI/Tableau, MDM platforms]
- Experience in data stewardship, data governance, or data quality roles.
- Hands‑on experience with CRM and ERP systems (Salesforce, Dynamics 365 preferred).
- Strong understanding of data management principles and governance frameworks.
- Experience with data cleansing, deduplication, and validation techniques.
- Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) tools.
- Familiarity with data governance frameworks.
- Experience in life sciences, biotech, or regulated environments.
- Knowledge of data querying tools.
