Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) has developed portable and scalable DNA and RNA sequencing platforms with the goal of enabling the sequencing of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere. The real-time data generation, scalability, and portability of our devices make decentralised and on-location sequencing a practical solution—empowering industries to harness the power of genomic information in diverse settings.
Reporting to the Applications Manager, Genomics Applications, this is a computational role working alongside lab scientists to:
- Develop end-to-end sequencing workflows
- Build associated data analysis pipelines
You’ll support our Business Development and Strategic Marketing teams by delivering sequencing solutions across sectors such as biopharma, veterinary science, agriculture, food safety, and bioproduction.
We’re looking for a skilled bioinformatician with experience in DNA/RNA sequence analysis and pipeline development to join the Genomics Applications team in Oxford.
Key responsibilities- Contribute to the design of new application-specific molecular assays
- Develop prototype workflows and perform data analysis
- Design, optimise, and maintain data analysis pipelines
- Collaborate closely with wet lab scientists to deliver complete sequencing solutions
- Follow best practices in software development and maintain thorough documentation
- Present and report findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Work cross-functionally with teams in Development, Product Management, and Marketing
- PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Biological Sciences, or Computer Science with a strong bioinformatics component
- Experience with assay design (desirable)
- Proficiency in NGS data analysis and variant calling
- Familiarity with methylation-calling and real-time analysis (ideal but not essential)
- Ability to adapt or modify bioinformatics tools/pipelines for targeted outcomes
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, R) and experience with workflow tools like Nextflow
- Good understanding of software development practices (e.g., version control)
- Proven ability to develop robust software and pipelines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a solid work ethic
- Exceptional time and project management capabilities
