THE POST

IVMS is looking to recruit a keen and enthusiastic Electrical Design & Controls Engineer who can work effectively as part of an experienced engineering team. The core role will utilise AutoCAD Electrical to design panels and electrical schematics for small retro-fit camera systems through to large industrial automation machinery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and specify control systems, safety and electrical components for industrial automation systems.
  • Create electrical schematics and designs within AutoCAD Electrical including layout diagrams, and terminal & wiring plans to EU Standards.
  • Create technical specifications, process flow diagrams and plan control system programming architecture.
  • Work with the Design and Applications engineers to provide drawings, specifications and deliver projects on time.
  • PLC and controls programming of industrial automation systems.
  • Co-ordinate suppliers as part of overall project control.
  • Help as required for the electrical fitting, wiring of panels and assembly of machine builds.
  • Carry out electrical testing procedures on new machine builds.
  • Supporting electrical problem-solving during the manufacturing build process.
  • Integrate and Commission new systems in support of IVMS Engineers at customer sites within the UK and overseas.
  • Maintain, develop and support existing control systems at customer sites within the UK and overseas.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Minimum of 3+ years of industry experience.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience using AutoCAD Electrical or similar package.
  • Experience and knowledge of designing and creating electrical panel layouts within electrical CAD software.
  • Machinery safety training and/or experience.
  • Sound understanding of electrical control gear, industrial automation and implementation of communication protocols (Profinet/Profibus, EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, serial, OPC, IO-link, etc.).
  • A logical approach to problem-solving.
  • Well organised, ability to work to deadlines and high attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – both written and verbal.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level preferably in Electrical Engineering or related fields (2.1 or above).
  • Knowledge of robotics.
  • Clean and full UK driving licence.
