The Module Lead and Lecturer for the Professional Excellence Accelerator (PEA) will provide academic leadership and high-quality teaching for UHE UK’s PEA provision across BSc and MSc programmes.

Description

The postholder will be responsible for the design, coordination, delivery, monitoring and enhancement of the PEA as a structured developmental module that supports students’ academic transition, digital fluency, professional identity, communication skills, employability and progression. The module lead role combines module leadership with direct teaching responsibility. The postholder will ensure that the PEA remains relevant, engaging and aligned with the needs of students studying at Level 4 undergraduate and Level 7 postgraduate level, with particular attention to the needs of international students and other transition cohorts.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Module Leadership
  • Lead the planning, coordination and ongoing development of the Professional Excellence Accelerator (PEA) across BSc and MSc provision.
  • Ensure the PEA is delivered consistently and effectively as a mandatory, non-credit bearing enhancement module.
  • Develop and review the module structure, scheme of work, weekly themes and learning activities in line with programme needs.
  • Ensure appropriate differentiation between Level 4 undergraduate transition and academic development and Level 7 postgraduate academic, professional and progression support.
  • Maintain oversight of module content so that it supports academic success, engagement, retention and progression.
  • Review the relevance and effectiveness of PEA delivery annually and recommend enhancements based on student feedback, attendance data and programme performance indicators.
  • Work with Programme Leaders and academic colleagues to align PEA content with students’ credit-bearing modules and wider programme aims.
• Teaching and Learning
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging and inclusive teaching on the PEA across BSc and MSc cohorts.
  • Teach sessions in areas such as transition to UK higher education, academic writing and academic conventions, critical reading, analysis and synthesis, referencing and academic integrity, responsible and ethical use of AI, digital fluency and business/professional technologies, presentation, communication and teamwork reflective practice and self-management and employability, professional identity and career readiness.
  • Adapt delivery methods for undergraduate and postgraduate students as appropriate.
  • Create an active, supportive and developmental learning environment that builds confidence, belonging and professional behaviours.
  • Deliver workshops, tutorials and targeted interventions for students requiring additional support.
• Student Support and Engagement
  • Support students in understanding the expectations of UK higher education and successful study at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Provide timely developmental feedback to students on their academic, digital and professional skills.
  • Identify students at risk of disengagement or poor performance and work with academic and support teams to intervene early.
  • Support student transition, confidence-building and sense of belonging.
  • Contribute to induction, orientation and academic transition activities where required.
• Monitoring, Quality and Enhancement
  • Monitor attendance, participation and engagement in the PEA and ensure accurate record-keeping.
  • Contribute to reporting on student engagement, participation trends and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in quality assurance, standardisation and enhancement processes relating to the PEA.
  • Use student feedback, engagement data and progression indicators to evaluate impact and improve provision.
  • Ensure the module is delivered in accordance with institutional policies, academic expectations and quality processes.
  • Carry out administrative duties associated with module leadership and teaching.
• Collaboration and Liaison
  • Work collaboratively with the Module Lead, Programme Leaders, lecturers and student support staff.
  • Liaise with teaching teams to ensure PEA activities support live academic demands within degree programmes.
  • Participate in relevant meetings relating to curriculum development, student experience, retention and progression.
  • Contribute to induction, orientation and student engagement activities where required.

Person Specifications

• Legal status
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
  • Enhanced DBS disclosure check or overseas equivalent.
• Qualifications
  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as: Education, Business / Management, Applied Linguistics / EAP, Academic Practice or another relevant subject.
  • For Level 6, a relevant Master’s degree and PhD or substantial teaching and research or industry experience at that level.
  • Formal teaching qualification PGCHE or Registered Practitioner of Advance HE. (Desirable)
• Experience
  • Experience of teaching students in higher education.
  • Experience of delivering academic skills, study skills, professional skills, employability, or transition support.
  • Experience of supporting students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, including international students.
  • Experience of designing teaching materials and learning activities.
  • Experience of using Moodle or another VLE to support teaching and student engagement.
  • Experience of monitoring student participation and providing academic support or intervention.
  • Experience of teaching within Business, Management, Marketing, Project Management or related professional subject areas. (Desirable)
  • Experience in a partner-delivery or collaborative provision setting. (Desirable)
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring or employability-focused support. (Desirable)
• Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of UK higher education expectations at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Strong understanding of academic writing, critical thinking, referencing, academic integrity and feedback and feedforward.
  • Understanding of the transition challenges faced by international students and other non-traditional entrants.
  • Knowledge of digital fluency and responsible use of AI in academic and professional contexts.
  • Understanding of employability and professional identity development in higher education.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes in higher education. (Desirable)
  • Familiarity with retention, continuation and progression priorities in UK higher education. (Desirable)
  • Awareness of the needs of students transitioning from foundation or international pathways. (Desirable)
