Overview

As a Director of Studies with Oxford International Junior Programmes, you will be responsible for the complete oversight of the Academic Programme at one of our residential language centres. All candidates need to be over 18 years old, eligible to work in the UK and willing to undergo an Enhanced DBS Disclosure Check and/or an Overseas Police Check.

Must-Haves

  • Experience working with children/teenagers, ideally in a residential camp setting or similar
  • Significant full-time teaching experience
  • The ability to motivate and lead a diverse workforce
  • A positive and flexible approach to work, along with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • A desire to work with students aged between 8-17
  • The ability to demonstrate respect for equal opportunities and respect for race and diversity
  • A bachelor’s degree and a DELTA, Trinity DipTESOL or equivalent
  • Eligibility to work in the UK

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Academic duties

  • Understanding, implementing, and maintaining Oxford International Junior Programmes’ academic procedures and administration.
  • With administrative support from the Senior Teachers, managing and overseeing the testing, assessment, placement, and induction of students.
  • Overseeing the students’ academic path from arrival (testing) to departure (certificates).
  • Preparing accurate timetables, ensuring teachers are allocated to classes and levels that work to the strength of the teachers.
  • Being proactive in offering support to teachers, both newly qualified and experienced, before it is actively needed or requested.
  • Providing CPD sessions for the academic team throughout their employment.
  • Inducting all teaching staff on arrival at the centre whereby the standards for the rest of the programme are laid out.
  • Managing the use of materials and resources effectively.
  • Conducting teacher observations and provide feedback on their performance.
  • Maintaining a clear line of communication between you and the rest of the academic team through regular staff meetings that are informative and succinct.

Staff Management

  • Creating a sustained positive atmosphere and motivate effectively, offering praise and recognition whenever possible.
  • Conducting informative inductions for the academic team as directed by the Academic Manager.
  • Creating weekly staff rotas, organising the workload of the staff effectively.
  • Holding daily meetings with staff that are informative, timely and organised, keeping your staff well informed.
  • Monitoring your teams’ performance and conduct interim and end of contract staff appraisals.
  • Following Oxford International Junior Programmes’ policy guidelines in relation to staff performance and grievance procedures.

General

  • Responding to emergencies whenever necessary.
  • Attend all group leader meetings and senior staff meetings.
  • Supporting the wider centre team with tasks when required.
  • Maintaining suitable levels of student discipline, safety, and welfare.
  • Always encouraging students to use English.
  • Carrying out and/or consult risk assessments whenever required.
  • Attending the company’s staff training weekend (where applicable).
  • Attending all staff briefings and take part in all necessary health and safety training.
  • Committing to being a positive role model through your employment.
  • Carrying out all other reasonable tasks.
