Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products, Atomic Force Microscopes, Raman Microscopes and Benchtop NMR Products. We are part of the wider Oxford Instruments Group that also includes Andor Technology, NanoScience, Plasma Technology and X-Ray Technology. This role is ideal for you if…

  • You have a background in user experience design, specifically designing windows desktop applications and instrument controls OR you come from a coding background and are looking to move into a UX role.
  • You are genuinely passionate and/or curious about working for a science business and helping to create products that enable ground-breaking research and discovery.
  • You like the idea of working in a large team of designers, developers, and testers (45 people in the software department) in a highly technical environment.
  • You enjoy presenting and articulating complex design ideas and thrive in coming up with new solutions.

What we are looking for…

  • A science or Engineering qualification.
  • Proven user-centred design and prototyping skills with considerable experience.
  • Proficient in design and interaction software such as Figma or Adobe XD.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment with a cross-functional team.
  • Proven experience collaborating with product owners and developers to gather requirements and understand user needs.

Location:

We are based in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and have a hybrid working policy. A UX Designer in our organisation needs to be onsite a couple of times a week, as required, because effective design in this context depends on close collaboration and deep product understanding.
