Materials Analysis is an Oxford Instruments Business Unit that manages our Electron Microscopy and Mechanical Microscopy products, Atomic Force Microscopes, Raman Microscopes and Benchtop NMR Products. We are part of the wider Oxford Instruments Group that also includes Andor Technology, NanoScience, Plasma Technology and X–Ray Technology. This role is ideal if:

  • You are a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer whose main purpose is the mechanical design and detailing of high precision new parts, sub–assemblies.
  • You are proficient at leading the mechanical design of new products, sub–systems, assemblies, and customer solutions.
  • You are comfortable with having the authority to work independently without supervision.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Work with marketing to ensure designs meet customer requirements while seeking creative, low–cost mechanical designs.
  • Work closely with technologists, systems engineers and other developers to optimise engineering solutions.
  • Specify and document designs including, requirement specifications, layouts, detail & assembly drawings, Bills Of Material, etc.
  • Work closely with supply chain and suppliers during the specification and procurement of mechanical parts.
  • Assist the Manufacturing and Service departments to introduce new products and support with issues on existing products.
  • Manage engineering changes using official ECR/ECO/BP procedures in our PLM tool.

Location and working hours:

We are based in High Wycombe on the Cressex Business Park and have hybrid working, which includes 3 days in the office and 2 days at home. We have a 37–hour working week and finish on Fridays at 12:30.
