The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.

To develop and implement a health and safety process in line with Oxford Instruments plc policies that comply with UK regulations (OHSAS18001) and reflect best practice in the sector. To manage environmental impact systems to comply with UK regulations in line with Oxford Instruments plc policies and to work towards ISO14001 as agreed with management.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for monitoring, proposing and implementing the facilities and H&S budget.
  • Champion health and safety to drive safe behaviour throughout the site. Facilitate the ownership of safety by all employees at all times and in a consistent manner.
  • Continually audit all operations on site to assess the risk of a significant health and safety failure. Drive improvement to eliminate unacceptable risk and to achieve the required safety standards cost effectively.
  • Report back to senior management on findings and corrective actions. Action/follow up all near-miss/accident reports and liaise directly with the HSE for all reportable incidents.
  • Oversee and host external audits from various government bodies against company standards (ISO14001).
  • Carry out basic safety awareness (induction) training for all staff to a high standard and ensure everyone fully understands their safety responsibilities.
  • Arrange for all safety-related equipment to be regularly inspected and maintain a database of safety equipment issued and inspected.
  • Provide and monitor effective systems which ensure optimum safety of all contractors and visitors to the site.
  • Provide a framework for the effective control of all COSHH-related duties. Monitor the control procedures and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Designated as the site Fire Officer and site Safety Officer.
  • Organise trial evacuations and alarm tests on a regular basis.
  • Manage various infrastructure maintenance contracts and manage the H&S spend to budget.
  • Influence behavioural safety within the Company through example, setting high standards and expectations for those around you.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience of managing health and safety processes, preferably in a technical/manufacturing/engineering environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and directives. Experience of implementing OHSAS18001.
  • Experience of implementing systems to manage control of substances under COSHH regulations.
  • Understanding of quality systems (ISO 9001) and environmental legislation (ISO 14001) would be an advantage.
  • Safety-related appropriate qualification, e.g. NEBOSH or equivalent.

We are a scientific manufacturing company, based in High Wycombe (Cressex). The nature of this role requires someone to be based on-site.
