We help startup and small businesses figure out the right level of security for where they are right now. That means we know what it feels like to have to ruthlessly prioritise and take difficult decisions with limited time and resources. Our customers need the minimum viable level of security for the stage they're at, whether that's finding product market fit or scaling globally. We focus on the business need and work to balance risk against opportunity. Making things super-secure is easy; making things secure enough so that a business can thrive is much harder - that's our sweet spot.
This is a part-time remote contract role for a Security, Privacy, and Compliance Consultant at Oxford Infosec Ltd. Hours are flexible within the UK time zone, based on business need and your availability. We operate a highly flexible model that allows you to take on as much or as little as you like. We want to make sure we're not excluding people who can't (or don't want to) work a standard 40-hour week. Perhaps you've got young children, or are caring for an elderly relative, or have a health condition that limits the hours you can work. If you've got the skills and experience, then we'd love to talk to you.
Our consultants are a combination of strategist, technologist, compliance nerd, and security engineer. One day you might be setting up a new MDM platform for a customer, the next you might be talking to the CEO about privacy risk. Excellent customer facing skills are a must, and you'll need to be able to quickly build trusted advisor relationships with anyone at any level of the business.
Experience required:
- You must have direct customer facing experience in a security, privacy, or compliance focused role.
- You must be able to engage customers in a friendly authoritative manner that builds trust.
- Technical chops - we are not too concerned about specific tools or platforms, but you must have experience with some security tools and be able to learn new tech quickly.
- An understanding of security principles - we do a lot of first principles thinking to boil problems down to the real business risk.
- You must not be a security purist - anyone who thinks that there's a single best way of achieving something will not do well here.
- If you've only ever worked in large enterprises, you need to be aware that small businesses are different - they think differently, act differently, and they solve security and privacy problems differently.
What's on offer:
- Fully remote working and no micro-management - work where you like, when you like - as long as customers are happy, we are happy.
- Starting rate of £50/hr.
- High autonomy in exchange for high standards - you won't be micro-managed, but that means you need to deliver excellent quality work without anyone looking over your shoulder or chasing for updates.
