Senior QC Technician (Microbiology)

Function Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior QC Technician to join a microbiology quality control laboratory. The successful candidate will perform microbiological QC testing to ensure products meet established quality, safety, and performance standards while supporting the release of products used within healthcare, food safety, pharmaceutical, and laboratory environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform microbiological quality control testing in accordance with approved methods and specifications.
• Test culture media, reagents, and related microbiological products.
• Prepare microbiological media and laboratory materials.
• Carry out routine laboratory activities including pipetting, plate pouring, swabbing, streaking, autoclave use, and equipment checks.
• Record and maintain accurate test results and laboratory documentation, including SAP-based quality records.
• Monitor product testing schedules and communicate any delays or quality concerns.
• Support investigations into non-conformances and laboratory issues.
• Maintain laboratory standards through cleaning, waste management, consumable replenishment, and adherence to SOPs.
• Participate in daily team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement activities.

Profile

• Degree or equivalent qualification in Microbiology or a related Life Sciences discipline, or relevant industry experience.
• Experience working in a microbiology laboratory or quality control environment.
• Hands-on experience with microbiological techniques such as pipetting, swabbing, streaking, media preparation, and plate pouring.
• Ability to follow laboratory procedures and quality documentation accurately.
• Strong attention to detail, organisational skills, and numerical ability.
• Familiarity with SAP and Microsoft Office would be advantageous.
• Proactive, quality-focused, and committed to maintaining high laboratory standards.

Offer

• £14.14 per hour (£25,250 annual equivalent).
• Full-time position, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
• Working hours: Monday to Thursday 08:00-16:00, Friday 08:00-14:30.
• Initial 9-month contract with immediate start available.
