Position Summary:
The QC Associate Scientist performs microbiological quality control testing to ensure products meet safety and performance standards, supporting our client's mission to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. This role sits within the Microbiology Division, which develops solutions for diagnosing infectious diseases and detecting bacterial contamination. The division serves public health, clinical laboratories, food companies, environmental screening, and pharmaceutical customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Quality Control (QC) testing in accordance with Oxoid test specifications and methods, including Level 1, 2, and 3 testing methods.
- Media preparation, autoclaving, cleaning, and waste management.
- Completing OOS (Out of Specification) reports and assisting with investigations.
- Record all test results in the SAP Quality Management module.
- Plan, track, and control progress of products under test and communicate accurate availability dates to Planning and Customer Services.
- Proactively alert the QC Team Leader of any potential issues and support troubleshooting investigations.
- Conduct equipment checks, audits, and maintain accurate training records.
- Collaborate with key departments (QA, Production, Manufacturing Sciences, Customer Services, Planning) to ensure customer service targets are met.
- Participate in Daily Tier Board Meetings, reporting on KPIs and performance goals.
- Actively engage in PPI (Practical Process Improvement) activities to drive continuous improvement.
- Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and report unsafe or unethical practices immediately.
Required Experience, Skills & Abilities:
- Education: Level 6 qualification (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Biology, or related scientific discipline.
- Experience: Experience working in a microbiological laboratory environment; familiarity with QC testing, SOPs, and GMP standards; experience using SAP and MS Office preferred.
- Technical Skills: Competence in basic microbiological techniques: pipetting, streaking, swabbing, pouring plates; strong attention to detail and adherence to standard methods; understanding of laboratory safety and quality control practices.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to remain calm and methodical under pressure; problem-solving mindset with initiative for continuous improvement.
