This position ensures compliance with housing legislation, including the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 and the Renters Rights Act 2025, by investigating complex tenancy disputes and taking decisive action to uphold the law. The role demands a strong investigative approach, including conducting formal interviews under PACE, gathering evidence, and preparing robust legal cases for court proceedings or financial penalties.
The officer will provide expert advice on landlord and tenant law to residents, landlords, and partner agencies, helping to resolve disputes and promote best practice across the private rental sector. Building constructive relationships with landlords is a key aspect of the role, aimed at improving housing standards and reducing unlawful practices.
Beyond casework, the Tenancy Investigation Officer contributes to wider strategic housing initiatives and multi-agency efforts to tackle unlawful housing activity.
