Oxford City Council is the only council in England to operate all three property licensing schemes (mandatory HMO licensing, additional HMO licensing and selective licensing) across their entire district. Already well known for its proactive approach to enforcing conditions in the private rented sector, our team use their full range of skills in effective and innovative ways to secure improvements for residents in privately rented homes.
We are now looking for experienced and enthusiastic people to join our Residential Regulation Team to improve homes across the city as one of our Environmental Health Officers / Housing Health Practitioners / Residential Regulation Officers and ensure we have the resources required to effectively operate and enforce our three property licensing schemes and the new Renters’ Rights Act.
Our team has responsibility for enforcing and improving conditions in all private rented homes using all available legislation, a range of public health functions (including nuisance and public health) and planning enforcement.
Your duties will include:
- Visiting properties and undertaking compliance checks
- Evidence gathering of non-compliance
- Assisting in investigations into unlicensed properties and other relevant offences
- Dealing with internal and external customer queries
- Working with other partners to deliver a high-quality service
The successful candidate will be able to develop their skills and gain experience in a range of regulatory areas. The role is demanding and so will require you to take personal responsibility for a wide and varied caseload and perform with a high level of professionalism.
In return, we will give you the opportunity to be part of a varied role that will include partnering other services, assisting in carrying out investigations and checking compliance with the relevant legislation, whilst being given the opportunity to develop working alongside our experienced officers and management teams.
